Janhvi Kapoor's Sexualised Scenes Removed From Peddi; Buchi Babu Says 'Wanted To Show Rawness'

Peddi has generated a lot of discussion on social media platforms. The portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor's character Achiyamma in the Telugu sports drama disappointed many viewers, while it was hailed for Ram Charan's performance. The movie director Buchi Babu Sana has now stated that he has cut certain portions.

Peddi director claimed in an interview with the Indian Express that many people had 'misread' her role, Achiyyamma, and that a few sequences with Janhvi Kapoor were 'turned misleading'.

Buchi Babu Sana went on to say that, in contrast to his last movie, Peddi took a purposefully different approach. He claimed that part of the narrative depended on Janhvi's persona to create a contrast between Ram Charan's character, Peddi, and his transformation.

"In this film, I went a little radical, because Peddi comes from a remote place, somewhere far away from the hills. I wanted to show the rawness and later correct it in the end, saying that this guy is this way because of his upbringing and atmosphere. For such a character, he thinks he has to marry the woman he loves," he said.

The filmmaker added, "In this process, a few shots turned misleading. We have taken corrective measures to remove them, and we have removed them."

Janhvi Kapoor’s introduction scene drew criticism for the way it framed her body, with the camera repeatedly focusing on her navel, waist and cleavage instead of her face. The movie was also called out for a scene in which Ram Charan’s character kisses her against her will and then justifies it by implying that love can only be conveyed through physical touch.

Peddi Box Office Collection Till Now

Peddi's gross has hit Rs 201.92 crore, while its net collection is currently at Rs 169.70 crore in India. Peddi's international gross reached Rs 47 crore after collecting Rs 1 crore on Monday in the foreign market. The Telugu film made Rs 292.5 crore worldwide in just four days, according to a post made by Peddi's production company, Vriddhi Cinema.

Peddi also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu and Boman Irani in key roles apart from Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor
