Vaishakh Amavasya 2026: The importance of Vaishakh Amavasya can not be denied in the Hindu religion. Though Amavasya is related to darkness and unfavourable periods of time, it is believed that Amavasya represents a fresh start and the ending of an existing cycle in Tantra Shastra. Vaishakh Amavasya 2026: Significance
Vaishakh Amavasya is believed to be extremely important for worshipping ancestors and conducting Tarpan. The day is said to be extremely important in bringing back all the sins that one might have committed in their lives and making them feel peaceful with everything happening around them. This is the perfect day for getting rid of negative things from your life and moving forward with a new lease of life. The main basis behind this particular festival is the very popular story of Savitri and Satyavan, where the former pleases Yamraj and brings her husband back from the world of the dead.
Vaishakh Amavasya 2026: Rituals
On the day of Vaishakh Amavasya, one should take an early morning bath and offer water and black sesame seeds to one's ancestors. Worshipping the Peepal tree and offering Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu is considered auspicious. Performing acts of charity and feeding the poor on this day pleases the ancestors. Lighting a mustard oil lamp at the main entrance of the house in the evening helps dispel negativity.

The people observing a fast on Vaisakh Amavasya should refrain from eating foods like onions, garlic, and tamasic foods. A person can keep the Phalahar fast on fruit, where one eats fruits, milk, sabudana, and dry fruits. The consumption of sattvic food should be performed only after the evening puja.
