To know more about bypass heart surgery and debunk myths, in conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr Bipeenchandra Bhamre, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai, shared his insights.
What Are The Reasons For Rising Heart Diseases?
According to the cardiac surgeon, “Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in India. It not only affects the elderly but also the younger population. So, various factors like sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, stress, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and genetic factors can raise the chances of heart disease.”
What Are The Common Heart Conditions?
“Some of the most common heart conditions seen in people are coronary artery disease (blocked arteries), heart attacks, heart failure, and arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat). The symptoms noticed can be chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, fatigue, arm, neck, jaw, or back pain, sweating, nausea, and dizziness,” a heart doctor claimed.

“Many tend to ignore early warning signs such as chest pain, breathlessness, and delay treatment, and suffer from complications like a heart attack and heart failure. However, people are often scared to undergo bypass surgery. But it is necessary to raise awareness about advanced treatments, such as bypass surgery, which can help improve outcomes and reduce mortality,” he added.
Why Patients Should Opt For A Bypass Surgery?
1. Bypass surgery, also known as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), is a life-saving procedure that helps restore blood flow to the heart by bypassing blocked arteries.
2. The surgery is especially effective in preventing repeated heart attacks and will be recommended by the cardiac surgeon in case of severe blockages.
3. With advancements in medical technology, bypass surgery has become safer and more effective, offering long-term benefits.
4. It will improve heart health, and the patient can resume his/her daily routine with ease.
5. Those with diabetes and repeated heart symptoms can also be advised to undergo bypass surgery.
