Haldiram, an Indian multinational fast-food restaurant chain, had a blockbuster opening where Indians queued in long lines to taste Indian cuisines like Pani Puri, Chole Bhature and Raj Kachori. Just a few weeks after its popular opening in London, Haldiram’s UK restaurant has shut its doors.
The restaurant, located in Leicester Square, closed on 21 July 2026. However, the restaurant chain has issued a clarification, asserting that it is not a permanent closure and that it will resume services, although it has not committed to any specific reopening date.

Massive opening before temporary closure
Haldiram's opened its first UK restaurant in June this year at 19-20 Irving Street, Leicester Square. The place is about 3,000 square feet and can seat 120 people inside, plus 20 seats outside. It offers a more premium dining experience with dishes like chole bhature, pav bhaji, raj kachori, many types of chaat, and special desserts. It also has a shop section selling Haldiram’s packaged sweets and snacks.
When it first opened, long queues of people, especially from the Indian communit, formed outside. Videos of the crowds went viral online.
Why did Haldiram close its UK store?
According to the official Instagram page (@haldiramsuk.restaurants), it is closed because of planned electrical works by UK Power Networks (UKPN). The page message reads: “We’ll be back soon. Stay tuned!”

UKPN looks after electricity supply in London and nearby areas. This is planned maintenance work, not a problem with the restaurant itself.
At the moment, no reopening date has been shared.
