Preeti Pawar won the women’s 54kg boxing gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after beating Canada’s Scarlett Delgado 5-0 by unanimous decision on Saturday.

The Indian boxer made a strong start and looked in control from the opening bell. She landed the cleaner punches and moved well around the ring, earning the first round from all five judges.

Preeti carried the same momentum into the second round. She stayed on the front foot, attacked with confidence and did not give Delgado any opportunity to get back into the contest. Her composed display helped India secure its first gold medal of the day.

The 22-year-old, who is ranked World No. 3 in the bantamweight division, had entered the final with plenty of confidence. In the semifinals, she outclassed Zambia’s Catherine Mwape with another dominant 5-0 unanimous decision to book her place in the gold medal bout.

The victory adds another major achievement to Preeti’s career and gives India’s medal tally another valuable boost at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
