India Officially Receives CWG Flag, Ahmedabad Set To Host Commonwealth Games 2030

A memorable Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow came to end, but for India, it also marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter. After finishing the Games with an impressive haul of 39 medals, India officially received the Commonwealth Games flag and ceremonial baton, confirming Ahmedabad as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

The handover took place during a spectacular closing ceremony on Sunday, as Scotland passed the baton to the hosts of the centenary edition of the Games. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi accepted the Commonwealth Games flag on behalf of the nation.

Prince Edward Flags Off Ceremony

The ceremony was officially brought to a close by Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, representing King Charles III.

"Thanks for the manner in which you have competed, officiated, supported and organised the Games. You have once again brought the spirit and value of the Commonwealth tonight. Thank you, Glasgow," Prince Edward said before declaring the Games closed.

He also extended an invitation to the sporting world for the next edition, saying, "I call upon athletes of all countries and territories to come to Ahmedabad, India in four years' time to celebrate the 24th Commonwealth Games in what will be the centenary of the Games."

India Gives The Commonwealth A Grand Welcome

As the CWG flag shifted hands, the spotlight shifted to India with a vibrant cultural presentation celebrating the country's rich heritage and diversity.

The showcase was divided into three acts, highlighting India's civilisational values, traditions and spirit of unity. The highlight of the evening came when renowned composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan took the stage alongside his sons Siddharth and Shivam Mahadevan. Their energetic performance featured iconic songs such as Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walo, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Ae Watan and Lehara Do, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Gujarati playback singer Bhoomi Trivedi added a local flavour to the ceremony with a special tribute to Gujarat, giving spectators a glimpse of what awaits when Ahmedabad welcomes the Commonwealth in 2030.

India Signs Off Glasgow 2026 With 39 Medals

India's flag handover came after a successful campaign in Glasgow, where the contingent secured 39 medals across multiple disciplines. Indian athletes delivered standout performances in athletics, boxing, weightlifting, para sports and other events, setting a strong foundation ahead of the home Games.

With the flag now in Indian hands, the countdown to Ahmedabad 2030 has officially begun.
