Fresh off another golden chapter in her illustrious career, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has a simple yet powerful message for the next generation of Indian weightlifters: "Work hard, stay disciplined, and make sacrifices."
The Olympic silver medallist and one of India's greatest-ever weightlifters spoke exclusively after returning home from the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, where she etched her name into the history books by winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's 49kg category.
Mirabai's triumph played a key role in India's remarkable campaign, which saw the country finish fourth on the medal table with 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze). Mirabai Chanu spoke directly to one of our correspondent.

A Historic Third Commonwealth Games Gold
Mirabai once again proved why she remains the face of Indian weightlifting.
After winning gold at the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Manipuri lifter completed a remarkable hat-trick by defending her crown in Glasgow.
Her latest title further cemented her legacy as one of India's most decorated weightlifters, adding another milestone to a career that already includes an Olympic silver medal, a World Championship gold, and multiple Commonwealth Games honours.
Beyond her own success, Mirabai was instrumental in inspiring India's weightlifting contingent, which concluded the Games with eight medals with one gold, six silver and one bronze.
'Work Hard, Stay Disciplined and Make Sacrifices'
Despite standing on top of the podium once again, Mirabai remained focused on inspiring the next generation.
When asked what advice she would give to young weightlifters facing challenges in their careers, the Commonwealth champion delivered a heartfelt message.
Interviewer: Your journey hasn't been easy. Many weightlifters are currently struggling as well. Do you have any message for them?
Mirabai Chanu: "This Commonwealth Games has been very successful for India, with many medals coming for the country. I am very happy. I want to thank everyone in India for the immense love and support they have given me. Because of their encouragement, I have been able to reach this stage.
"I especially want to tell the younger generation to work hard, stay disciplined, and make sacrifices for their goals. Success comes through dedication and perseverance."
Her words reflect the values that have defined her own career. from overcoming injuries and setbacks to becoming one of India's most important sports icon.

Chanu's Feeling After Wining Gold
Speaking exclusively after returning from the Commonwealth Games 2026, Mirabai Chanu opened up about the emotions she experienced after becoming India's first gold medallist at the Games and completing a remarkable Commonwealth hat-trick.
"I was extremely happy. Winning a gold medal for India was very important for me. This is my third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal. Overall, this is my fourth Commonwealth Games medal—three golds and one silver. It means a lot to me, and winning gold for India is always a matter of great pride," she told our correspondent.
Her message to young lifters is work hard, remain disciplined and be willing to make sacrifices. That is a reflection of the path she has followed throughout her career.
