A popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow has found itself at the centre of a controversy after Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain objected to an inaccurate map of India printed on its napkins during a reception for the Indian Commonwealth Games contingent.

The incident occurred after members of the Indian team visited Mister Singh's India – The Home of Curry following their successful campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

While the athletes were being hosted at the restaurant, Lovlina noticed that the printed outline map of India on the napkins omitted the entire northeastern region, prompting her to publicly raise the issue.

Lovlina Borgohain Flags Incorrect India Map

The Assam boxer expressed disappointment over the inaccurate depiction, stressing that every part of the country deserves equal representation.

"The map on the napkins is missing our North East. Every part of India is important and should be represented," Lovlina Borgohain told IANS.

Her remarks quickly drew attention on social media, with many users supporting her stand and calling for the restaurant to correct the design.

BFI President Ajay Singh Backs Lovlina

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh also condemned the incorrect depiction, saying the issue extended beyond the omission of the Northeast.

According to Singh, the printed map also featured an incomplete representation of Jammu & Kashmir, making the design factually inaccurate.

He urged the restaurant management to immediately withdraw the faulty merchandise and replace it with a map that accurately reflects India's territorial integrity.

Restaurant Yet to Respond

As of now, Mister Singh's India – The Home of Curry has not issued an official statement on the controversy.

The restaurant is one of Glasgow's best-known Indian dining establishments and has frequently hosted international sports teams, dignitaries and visitors over the years.

For more than three decades, the family-run restaurant has combined Punjabi culinary traditions with Scottish hospitality, becoming a popular destination for tourists and sporting delegations visiting the Scottish city.

Lovlina Ends CWG 2026 Campaign with Silver

Lovlina enjoyed another successful outing at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist secured the silver medal in the women's 75kg boxing event, finishing runner-up after a spirited campaign in Glasgow. Although she narrowly missed out on the gold medal, her performance helped India register its best-ever boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games.

Indian boxers finished with a historic haul of medals, contributing significantly to the country's tally of 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze) as India ended the Games in fourth place overall.
