India's Commonwealth Games 2026 heroes received a rousing welcome upon their return home, with hundreds of cheering fans gathering at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Sunday to celebrate the country's medal-winning athletes.

The first batch of the Indian contingent, led by Olympic medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, arrived to loud cheers, flowers and applause after helping India finish fourth in the Commonwealth Games 2026 medal standings with 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze).

The heartwarming reception quickly went viral on social media, with fans hailing the athletes for their outstanding performances in Glasgow.

Mirabai Chanu Proud After Historic Gold

Leading the returning contingent was Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who scripted history by winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's 49kg weightlifting event.

Expressing her gratitude after landing in New Delhi, the Manipuri star said the achievement was a proud moment for both her state and the country.

"Coming from Manipur, I feel really proud that I have done something good for my country," Mirabai told PTI.

Lovepreet Singh Eyes Asian Games Glory

Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh, who clinched silver in the men's +110kg category, narrowly missed out on gold by just one kilo.

The 28-year-old, who lifted a Commonwealth Games record 176kg in the snatch and a total of 388kg, thanked his supporters and immediately shifted focus to the next major event.

"I would like to thank my Indian Navy staff and captain Vijay Kumar, and all who have come," he stated.

Reflecting on the close defeat, he added, "It happens (missing on gold), but I did my hard work and I have got the result for that and when two players fight one has to lose. Up next, I will prepare well for Asian Games."

Bindyarani Devi Promises Stronger Comeback

Bronze medallist Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam, who finished on the podium in the women's 58kg category, thanked the fans for the overwhelming reception.

"Everyone has welcomed us like this so it feels great. Thank you all for making me feel like home. I'll train even harder than I have so far for the upcoming competitions," she promised.

Rishikanta Singh Appeals for Peace in Manipur

Silver medallist Rishikanta Singh, who finished second in the men's 60kg event, expressed satisfaction at winning a medal for India but admitted his goal remains winning gold.

"Feeling good that I have got a medal for India. I've already spoken about my performance, but I'll come back stronger and perform even better," he said.

India are currently fourth on the medal table with 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.

As the athletes returned home to an emotional reception, the scenes at Delhi airport reflected the nation's appreciation for a contingent that delivered memorable performances across boxing, weightlifting, athletics, para-sports and several other disciplines.
