Commonwealth Games 2026: Praveen Chithravel Wins Silver, Selva Prabhu Claims Bronze in Men's Triple Jump

India created history in the men’s triple jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday as Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu won silver and bronze respectively. It was the first time India had two athletes finish on the podium in the event at the Commonwealth Games.

Praveen took the silver medal with a best jump of 16.58m, while Selva claimed bronze with 16.52m. Jamaica’s Jordan Scott won the gold medal after producing the best jump of the competition at 16.72m.

The final was full of twists for the Indian pair. After the first three rounds, Selva was in third place with a jump of 16.43m, while Praveen was fifth after recording 16.31m.

Praveen turned things around with a brilliant fourth attempt. His jump of 16.58m briefly put him at the top of the standings before Scott responded with a winning leap of 16.72m later in the same round.

At the same time, Selva dropped out of the medal positions after registering a foul in the fourth round. That allowed New Zealand’s Ethan Olivier to move ahead of him.

With a medal on the line, Selva delivered when it mattered most. He jumped 16.52m on his fifth attempt to move back into third place, edging Olivier by just two centimetres.

Neither Praveen nor Selva could improve on their final attempts, but their fifth-round efforts were enough to secure silver and bronze for India.

The silver medal added another big achievement to Praveen’s career, while Selva celebrated his first-ever Commonwealth Games medal with a calm and determined performance.

Their success continued India’s impressive run in athletics at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. More importantly, it marked a historic day for Indian athletics, as the country celebrated its first-ever double podium finish in the men’s triple jump at the Commonwealth Games.
