Have you ever wondered why there is so much craze for Tarot reading among Gen Z? On a weekend like any other, as a Gen Z kid myself, I was scrolling reels on Instagram when a particular video got me hooked. The woman on the screen was dressed in extremely loud colours and makeup. Her voice was soothing and kind of hypnotic. She was shuffling some cards and picked out two cards, explaining what the future holds for me, whether what I am thinking will be achieved or not. You will not believe it, but I actually got so engaged that I watched the whole reel and listened to the advice that she was giving.

Some people believe that young minds like Gen Z are stepping away from the traditional beliefs of spirituality and are moving towards a more intuitive, flexible approach. However, looking at the rising interest in tarot reading lately, it appears that Gen Z is getting addicted to it rather than moving away from it.

What's Pushing Gen Z Towards Tarot?

In today's time, competition is very high. Everyone is running in a race to achieve something or the other. If you pass this race, you are appreciated; otherwise, you are surrounded by negativity, making you anxious, stressed, and burned out. There's a kind of pressure on young adults to achieve something or be productive, even if they are exhausted.

In the case of Millennials, it’s never been a problem. Even when they are burned out, having health struggles, they do not prioritise themselves. They run away from the feeling of exhaustion, but it’s not the case with Gen Z. Instead of running away from their emotions, they actually want to find the reason behind them. Lately, it seems that Gen Z is increasingly inclined towards astrology and tarot to understand themselves instead of running away from the problem.

These tools meet the expectations of Gen Z without putting them in difficult situations. In a Tarot reading, nobody is judging. You simply need to pick up the cards and the tarot reader then explains what's actually going on with them. These cards don't shout; instead, they carry advice that feels personal and relatable.

Why Only Tarot And Not Any Other Spiritual Practice?

Gen Z prefers Tarot more than any other spiritual practice because they believe it has more psychological impact on them. Especially for those aged 16-25, moving towards tarot reading is not out of curiosity but in order to navigate their emotions and life choices. Tarot guides them into thinking about certain aspects of their life and asking questions like where they are, what they should do, and most importantly, why they are feeling a certain energy.

Tarot Cards are full of symbols, like swords, cups, or images that represent some emotional themes. These symbols can be interpreted the way that you want. When a person filled with questions picks up the card, most of the time, it mirrors their emotions. This helps the concerned person to have self-reflection.

Can Tarot Really Work Alongside Therapy?

Personally, I believe the answer is yes. They both can work alongside each other, but believing that tarot can replace therapy is very wrong. A tarot reading can be used as guidance and help in self-reflection in your healing journey. Many therapist are believed to be using tarot to get better access to their clients and help them reflect on certain issues. Over the years, tarot has gained so much popularity in solving the issues of so many people. I believe that there is no harm in incorporating them in therapy sessions.
