Ahead of West Bengal's first phase elections, the Election Commision has implemented unprecedented security measures. To ensure a peaceful and fair voting process on April 23, the Commission has decided to deploy 2,407 companies of central security forces, strategically focusing on regions with a history of political instability.

High-Security Focus: Murshidabad And East Medinipur
The Election Commission's data reveals that Murshidabad district will see the highest concentration of security personnel. The district has been partitioned into two administrative zones, Murshidabad Police District and Jangipur, with a total of 316 companies stationed there. Of these, 240 companies will be dedicated solely to the Murshidabad Police District.
East Medinipur follows as the next high-priority zone, with 273 companies deployed. This area is particularly significant as it includes Nandigram, a high-profile constituency where Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari is facing a challenge from Trinamool Congress candidate Pavitra Kar.
Force Distribution Across Other Districts
Significant security arrangements have also been made for West Medinipur, where 271 companies will be on duty. Other notable deployments include:
Bankura: 193 companies
Birbhum: 176 companies
Malda: 172 companies
Purulia: 151 companies
In North Bengal, Cooch Behar will have 146 companies, while South Dinajpur and Darjeeling will see 83 and 61 companies respectively. Furthermore, North Dinajpur has been split into Islampur and Raiganj for security purposes, receiving a combined total of 132 companies.
Urban And Industrial Security
The Commission has allocated 125 companies to the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate and 44 companies to Siliguri. All units have been instructed to reach their designated positions by Monday.
By coordinating with local police, these central forces will be responsible for maintaining order and preventing any disturbances during the April 23 polls, particularly across the sensitive belts of North Bengal and Jungle Mahal.
