The days are going to get hotter across India as temperatures continue to rise. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of rising temperatures along with hot and humid weather conditions in several parts of the country. The maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in many regions, especially over Northwest, Central, and Northeast India.

IMD Issues Heatwave Alert From April 16

In a weather bulletin released on Wednesday, the IMD stated that heatwave conditions are very likely in East Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, West Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Marathwada, and Rayalaseema from April 15 to 19. These regions will record intense daytime heat. Odisha is likely to remain under alert from April 15 to 18, while Chhattisgarh is expected to experience heatwave conditions from April 16 to 19.

Forecast For Delhi-NCR

Cities such as Nagpur, Bhopal, Amravati, and Bhubaneswar may see daytime temperatures ranging between 42°C and 45°C until April 16. The IMD has predicted even higher readings at some places. Delhi-NCR is expected to cross the 40°C mark this week for the first time this season. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are likely to reach 42°C to 43°C.

Furthermore, according to the IMD forecast, hot and humid weather is expected to persist over West Bengal, Odisha, coastal Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Gujarat coast, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Karnataka, and Kerala.

Rainfall Forecast

While parts of India will see intense heat, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from the night of April 16. The system will bring light to moderate rain, snowfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over Northwest India. According to IMD, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience rain from April 16-19, and Uttarakhand on April 17.

Meanwhile, in the northeast, Assam and Meghalaya will see widespread rain from April 15-19.
