Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Elections: The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission on Wednesday published the final voter list for the three-tier Panchayat elections. The list has been published at the district level. In each district, their respective District Magistrate (DMs) are releasing the Panchayat election voter lists today, and the state Election Commission will compile the entire data.
Earlier on December 23, the poll body released the provisional voter list, which included the names of 12.69 crore voters.
New 9-digit SVN
The poll body published the list today after the disposal of claims and objections. This time, voters have also been assigned a new nine-digit State Voter Number, which will streamline the identification and election management process.
Following the release of the final voter list, activities related to the Panchayat election notification and schedule are expected to accelerate.
What changed in new voter lists
In the recent revision process, approximately 1.41 crore voters were removed from the electoral rolls, while 1.81 crore new voters were added. Following the release of the final voter list, some difficulties were encountered downloading it due to technical reasons. The concerned department is working to resolve the problem.
The provisional voter list released last December showed an increased voter count of 40.19 lakh compared to the previous panchayat election. It took the Commission 169 days to prepare the final voter list.
Panchayat polls delayed
The tenure of the gram pradhans in UP ended on May 26. However, the CM Yogi Adityanath-led UP government decided to extend them the responsibility as acting administrators for six months. The government has formed a commission to address OBC reservations in Panchayat elections.

The panel has been asked to review the economic and social status of the backward classes by district and submit its report on reservations within six months.
The Allahabad High Court recently expressed displeasure with the Commission over the delay in conducting panchayat elections. The court had reportedly asked for a timeframe within which the elections will be held. As the final voters' list has been released, the preparations for the polls are likely to commence soon.
