UP: 40-Year-Old Ghaziabad Psychiatrist Struggling With Depression Dies by Suicide; Probe Underway

A 40-year-old psychiatrist allegedly died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Sunday. The family said that woman had been suffering from depression for a year after getting a divorce. The deceased has been identified as Dr Hemika Agarwal. She allegedly jumped from a fifth-floor apartment at Officers City-2 Society in the Raj Nagar Extension area and died from her injuries.

Psychiatrist Father Shares Statement

The deceased woman’s father, Dr R Chandra, who too is a known psychiatrist in Ghaziabad, said that his daughter has been fighting with mental stress and depression since the last 18 months. 

The residents and the other family members soon shifted her to the hospital, where the doctors declared her dead on arrival. Officials said investigators are looking at all aspects of the case. Statements of family members are being recorded, and evidence from the scene is being reviewed. Police have not officially confirmed the recovery of any suicide note so far.

A forensic team inspected the scene and collected evidence. Police said statements of family members and others connected to the case are being recorded to establish the sequence of events.

Authorities said further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and the findings of the investigation.

Separate Case

In a separate case, a 35-year-old doctor was found dead at Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital in Delhi this year. The deceased had been identified as Dr Simarpreet Singh Anand and was on a night shift from 8 pm on July 4 to 8 am on July 5. A three-page note and a personal diary were recovered from the duty room of the doctor. 

The matter came to light when the Civil Lines police station received a PCR call during the early hours of Sunday. Upon reaching the hospital premises, the investigators found that Anand was lying unconscious in Duty Room No. 109.

The police said that they forced open the duty room at around 9 am. Dr Anand was taken to the emergency ward, wherein he was declared dead. Cops found a cannula inserted in his left hand. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a technician had inserted a cannula at around 10 pm on Saturday at the doctor's request.
