State Bureau, Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been going through turbulence amid growing internal differences within the party. In a fresh development, rebel TMC MPs Deepak Adhikari, alias Dev, and June Malia, who are believed to be associated with the party’s “rebel” faction, on Tuesday attended an administrative review meeting held by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kolaghat in the East Midnapore district.

This meeting comes just a day after 20 Lok Sabha MPs of the Trinamool Congress, led by senior Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who is at the forefront of the rebel faction, announced that the rebel camp of 20 MPs had decided to write to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla declaring support for the NDA. Later, a letter bearing the signatures of 20 MPs was sent to the Speaker.

TMC rebel MPs attend CM Suvendu’s meeting

Medinipur MP June Malia, Deepak Adhikari (Ghatal MP Dev), and Keshpur MLA Seuli Saha were present at the administrative meeting held in Kolaghat. Shiuli Saha is among the 58 MLAs who recently came forward openly with the rebel faction led by MLA Ritabrata Banerjee.

Shiuli Saha, once considered close to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, said while attending Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s meeting that the primary duty of public representatives is to work in the interest of the people. “It is in this spirit of responsibility that I have come to attend the Chief Minister’s meeting,” she said.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Moyna in East Midnapore and former Indian cricketer Ashok Dinda described the presence of opposition representatives as a sign of real change.

He said that earlier the TMC government did not invite opposition MPs and MLAs to such meetings, but the current government has gone beyond political differences and invited all public representatives.

What was the meeting about?

According to officials, the administrative meeting focused on strategies to deal with possible floods during the monsoon, relief and rescue preparedness, and a review of development projects.

Given the recurring flood-related damage in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Howrah districts every year, this issue was given priority.

It is worth noting that earlier, TMC rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had also attended a similar administrative meeting held in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district.

After that, last week, several TMC MLAs also participated in an administrative review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at the state secretariat Nabanna, covering Kolkata and three surrounding districts.

What’s happening in TMC?

For the first time in 28 years, the Trinamool Congress is witnessing internal ridtand growing factional differences. Reports suggest increasing divisions among MPs and MLAs over leadership and organisational direction.

The situation has led to speculation about a possible split, with a section of MPs reportedly distancing themselves from the party’s central leadership.
