Maharashtra News: Advising on public hygiene proved costly for an elderly couple in Thane, Maharashtra, after they were attacked by an auto driver. The accused, an Ola auto driver, in anger, picked up a stone and threw it at the elderly man, fracturing his leg. The incident occurred near Viviana Mall, a video of which has now gone viral on social media, creating outrage.

File An Attempt To Murder Case: Shinde

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took cognisance of the incident, directing police to file an attempt to murder case against the accused. An X user (@AmdavadMatters) shared the video of the incident. Video shared on X, with explicit language

"The elderly man was beaten in front of his wife. Is it wrong to stop someone from spitting in public? The driver attempted to murder him by throwing a stone," he said.

How The Incident Unfolded

On Tuesday, 75-year-old Saroj Dastur was walking with his wife, Radhika Dastur (70-72), near Viviana Mall in Thane West. They then saw an auto-rickshaw driver, Nishant Shukla (40), washing his face, gargling, and repeatedly spitting on the roadside. When the elderly man stopped the driver from spitting, the driver became enraged.

A heated argument ensued between the two, which soon escalated into a brawl. The auto driver first pushed the elderly man and then, in anger, picked up a large stone and hit him on the leg. The stone fractured the elderly man's leg.

Shiv Sena Workers Catch Accused

After the video went viral on social media, local residents were outraged. Workers from the Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray factions searched for the accused all night and caught him. They beat the accused and handed him over to the Vartak Nagar police. The accused is currently in police custody.
