TMC Crisis: The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC), following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly election, has been facing its deepest crisis since its formation. The closest aides of 'Didi' have abandoned her as she deals with the most challenging time of her long political career. What began with the open rebellion of 60 of the total 80 MLAs, at least 20 Lok Sabha MPs of TMC have also reportedly decided to switch sides to the ruling NDA. The latest name in the list is Saayoni Ghosh, the Jadavpur MP who once called Banerjee "Mother of Bengal".
Saayoni Ghosh In The Rebel Camp?
As per the reports, Ghosh is one of the MPs deciding to support the rebel camp, led by senior TMC leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. While she has not announced it yet, Ghosh's signature was there in the letter submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by the rebels, reported NDTV, citing sources. The reports also suggest that Ghosh is currently in New Delhi, where the other rebel MPs are staying.
Her possible inclusion in the rebel camp is likely to send a shockwave among the TMC voters, as the Jadavpur MP has been a vocal admirer and supporter of Mamata Banerjee. Ghosh, during the campaign for the assembly polls, went on to say that Banerjee should be considered for the PM post. She also stated that Bengal wins if Mamata Banerjee and the TMC win.
TMC Crisis Deepens
Even after the humiliating defeat, Ghosh reiterated the party line by claiming that the TMC did not lose but was rather defeated by exploiting the powers of the central agencies. "We have not lost, but Mamata Banerjee has been defeated by stealing and looting of votes, In 2029, the people of Bengal, the people of the entire country, and in 2031, the mothers, land, and people of West Bengal will give a befitting reply," Ghosh had said.
With her possible inclusion in the rebel camp, Banerjee is only left with a few confidants, including her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and party MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad.
