Panna: A 22-year-old BSc student from Panna district allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison, with allegations of harassment and blackmail surfacing in a video she recorded before her death. In the video, Srishti Mishra claimed that a young man had threatened to circulate videos online and make them viral on social media if she refused to speak with him or comply with his demands.

The video surfaced on Sunday. Based on the suicide note and the video evidence, police arrested the accused, Barkhu Thakur, on Monday and presented him before the court, from where he was sent to jail. According to police, the video was recovered from her mobile phone along with a suicide note and WhatsApp chats, which are now part of the investigation.

Celebration Turns Into Tragedy

Srishti, also known as Priya Mishra, had recently topped her college in the BSc final-year examinations. Her family was celebrating her academic success when the incident occurred. After consuming poison, she was first taken to Ajaygarh Hospital, then referred to Panna District Hospital, and later shifted to Rewa Medical College, where she died before reaching treatment.

What Did She Say in the Video?

In the video, Srishti is seen crying and alleging that several people had conspired against her. She said she was being blackmailed and threatened with the release of private videos, which left her unable to cope. Police stated that the evidence points to blackmail and mental harassment.

Her family alleged that Barkhu Thakur, a resident of Bhina and son of Chandrapal Thakur, had been continuously harassing her and threatening to circulate videos to defame her.

Srishti’s father, Suresh Kumar Mishra, said she had been struggling with harassment and blackmail for a long time.

He alleged that the accused had harassed his daughter earlier as well but had temporarily stopped after being confronted. Things seemed normal for a while, but whenever family members went out for work or farming, the accused reportedly came to their house and pressured Srishti. He allegedly harassed her mentally with threats.

According to the family, the accused frequently visited their home and pressured Srishti to speak with him. When she refused, he allegedly threatened and mentally harassed her.

In an emotional statement, he said, “My daughter is gone, but the accused should face the death penalty.”

Before consuming poison, Srishti recorded a video in which she appeared deeply distressed and struggled to speak. In her suicide note, she reportedly stated that she was ending her life because of the accused and could no longer bear the harassment. Police have also recovered WhatsApp chats and call records from her mobile phone, which are now part of the ongoing investigation.
