The IMD has predicted a significant increase in temperature rise across key regions in North India. Temperatures are expected to rise by four to five degrees Celsius from current temperatures in key regions. As per the IMD report, people are expected to experience intense heat over the next several days.

While some of these changes may produce some limited western disturbances, the impacts of these disturbances will be relatively small. Although there will be intermittent rain and isolated thunderstorms, the degree of relief from temperatures will be minimal. The mid to late portion of April will experience even more extreme heat.

Key Regions To Face Increased Heat

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the heat will increase rapidly in the National Capital Region (NCR), Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh. Mild winds have been present, providing some temporary cooling to this region. However, the temperature feels much hotter when the mild winds disappear, as now the hot winds will remain.

By mid-afternoon, heatwave and heatwave-like conditions will begin to form, in addition to the two western disturbances that may be active. There is a possibility that some areas may experience light rain and/or isolated thunderstorms between April 15 and 18, due to the effects of these western disturbances.

Possibility Of Rain

There is a possibility of significant rainfall from April 15 to 19, in areas such as Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.

Thunderstorms and showers are expected in Himachal and Uttarakhand. The thunderstorms will not provide direct relief to those in the plains but will likely serve to slow the warm temperatures for a small period of time during this weather event.

Rain and windy weather will remain present in the entire northeastern region from April 19. The southern regions of India could also see light rain, but will still experience very hot and humid weather.

Impact In UP

The temperatures are set to rise in Uttar Pradesh, with the state set to see heat wave conditions, particularly in the western and central parts of the state. Daytime temperatures will exceed normal daytime temperatures in cities such as Meerut, Agra, Aligarh, Lucknow, and Prayagraj.

Southwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh can also expect dust storms and some light rain on April 20-21.

Impact In MP

In several districts of Madhya Pradesh, the temperature is already above 40 degrees, with the temperature expected to reach 45 degrees in Gwalior and 44 degrees in Bhopal, which indicates that the continuing heat wave will have a significantly higher impact on the Malwa and Vindhya regions of Madhya Pradesh.

The heat will gradually intensify in Bihar and Jharkhand as well. Although light winds may blow occasionally.
