The election affidavits of the 10 candidates contesting the Bihar Legislative Council elections revealed a lot of details about their educational qualifications, assets, liabilities and other personal aspects. Out of all the candid disclosures, the educational profile of the JD(U) candidate and the son of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Nishant Kumar, has drawn significant attention. 

Nishant Kumar has apparently not completed his engineering degree as per the election affidavit, and has completed only five semesters out of eight in the degree. His educational qualification is now an important topic after he entered the election race, having stayed away from mainstream politics till a few years back.

As per the affidavit, Nishant completed his Intermediate from Patna Science College in 1998 and joined the Bachelor of Engineering course at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, Ranchi. But he could not complete the engineering degree course, and according to the affidavit submitted, he completed only 5 semesters out of the 8, abandoning the course in 2001.

The former of the Bihar Legislative Council elections on Monday marked the formal entry of Nishant Kumar into electoral politics.

Speaking after filing his nomination, he said, "I will strive to live up to expectations. I will discharge the responsibility entrusted to me with honesty and dedication, and work towards realising the dream of a developed and prosperous Bihar envisioned by my father, Nitish Kumar."

His entry into politics after staying out of it for years has generated much interest.

Unlike his son, Nitish Kumar completed engineering; he completed a degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Bihar College of Engineering, which is currently called NIT Patna, in 1972, after which he joined politics and became the longest serving Chief Minister in Bihar.

Nishant’s election affidavit shows that the asset value of Nishant Kumar is Rs 4.63 crore and owns 2 vehicles.

Sunil Kumar Singh, The Richest Candidate

After the focus on candidates' education, Nishant Kumar stands as the richest candidate. The richest of all candidates in the Bihar Legislative Council elections is RJD nominee Sunil Kumar Singh.

His affidavit reveals that he has wealth worth Rs 54 crore, and his wife owns gold and silver jewellery, around 2.5 kg of gold and 35 kg of silver, respectively.
