Namo Bharat, India's first regional rapid transit system that connects Meerut with other parts of NCR, including Delhi, is now becoming the number one commuter train. The trains witnessed the highest single-day footfall of 1.25 lakh passengers on Monday.
Currently, the rapid rail is seeing about one lakh passengers travelling every day. It is also a result of people preferring this transit for their daily commute, as it provides an opportunity for quick and easy commuting between cities of the NCR.
The service, which has fully air-conditioned trains, runs at a gap of five to 10 minutes and is ideal for students and office-goers, is now reported to have 99 per cent punctuality as per NCRTC data.
The reasons behind the growth in the daily footfall are:
-Strong connectivity from Metro stations, Indian Railway stations, ISBTs and city bus networks. These feeder services account for approximately 40 per cent of the overall ridership.
-Availability of taxis and last-mile connectivity services at the station.
-Harsh summer and mercury levels hovering at 45 degrees Celsius in many parts of NCR.
-Rising petrol and diesel prices are making it expensive for private car users to travel to far-off destinations.
NCRTC Adds More Services
To accommodate growing demand for travel during peak hours, NCRTC has introduced 18 extra train trips of the trains. The trains run between Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South stations from 7 am to 11:30 am and from 5 pm to 8:30 pm.
The five stations that are witnessing the highest footfall of passengers:
-Sarai Kale Khan
-New Ashok Nagar
-Anand Vihar
-Ghaziabad
-Begumpul
The growing ridership confirms that Namo Bharat trains are becoming the ultimate mode of commute.
