Two MBA students from Mumbai's Goregaon died after consuming drugs in a music event. The incident took place at a concert at the NESCO Centre, with an entry fee of Rs 2000.
According to the police, the students studying at a reputed institution in South Mumbai allegedly consumed the banned drug MDMA. At around 12 am, on April 11, three of the students experienced breathing difficulties and were immediately shifted to the hospital. Two of them died in the hospital while a third is still in a critical condition.
According to NDTV, one of the deceased consumed a pill in the taxi while going to the event. The individual took another pill later at the event. He eventually died of overdose.
Subsequently, law enforcement officials from the Vanrai Police Station registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the deaths.
The supplier of the pills is also said to be a student and has been arrested. Six to seven pills were recovered from the accused, sources said. The inquiry has revealed that the drugs were brought from outside Mumbai.
The arrested individuals include event organiser Vihaan alias Akash Samal; Sunny Vinod Jain from NESCO Event Organisation and Management; Balakrishnan Balaram, a member of the internal security team; and two other students.
