Even as investigations continue into allegations against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat and sex harassment and conversion claims at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik, a shocking new case has emerged from the Paratwada-Achalpur area of Maharashtra’s Amravati district. A 19-year-old youth has been accused of sexually exploiting minor girls, recording obscene videos, and using them for blackmail, jagran.com reported.

The Amravati Rural Police have arrested the main accused after a tip-off. According to police, the accused, identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer, was arrested on Tuesday and remanded to police custody until April 21.

This case is from the Paratwada and Achalpur areas of Amravati, where widespread outrage erupted after the incident came to light. It is reported that approximately 100 obscene videos depicting minor girls being forced into sexual acts have gone viral on social media. Police suspect that the accused may have been involved in the creation of these videos.

The investigation revealed that the accused first lured the girls with the promise of friendship and relationships, then physically exploited them and recorded videos without their consent. Later, he used these videos to threaten and blackmail them.

How Was The Matter Exposed?

The matter came to light after Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anil Bonde and BJP spokesperson Shivrai Kulkarni filed a police complaint. They alleged that the accused was luring and exploiting several girls through social media. Police acted swiftly and arrested the accused. His mobile phone has been confiscated, and the cyber cell is in the process of removing the viral video.

Police officials say no victim or family has filed a formal complaint so far due to social stigma. Police have appealed to anyone to come forward and assured confidentiality.

Second Accused Also Arrested

Police have also arrested another accused in the case, Uzer Khan Iqbal Khan, who is accused of downloading videos from the main accused's mobile phone and sharing them on social media.

According to the police, approximately 100 videos were shared on social media, further escalating the matter. Interrogation of the second accused is expected to reveal more information about the entire network. Investigating agencies are now trying to determine how many more people are involved and how widely the videos were disseminated.

Number Of Victims

Local claims suggest that more than 100 girls may have been affected, with some claiming as many as 180 girls are feared victims and and around 350 videos are circulating on the internet. However, police have only confirmed eight victims so far.

Amravati Rural Superintendent of Police Vishal Anand Singuri said efforts are being made to identify all the victims and the investigation is ongoing. Forensic teams are also recovering deleted data. The police have also set up a special helpline staffed by female officers so that victims can safely file their complaints. Officials have also clarified that revealing the identities of victims is a legal offense.

The case has also taken a political turn. Some politicians have alleged that the accused has ties to a political party, although the party concerned has stated that the accused is no longer associated with them. Following the incident, protests erupted in Paratwada and Achalpur, and some organisations have called for a shutdown. Police have deployed additional forces as a precautionary measure.
