J-K: Heavy Rains, Cloudburst Trigger Flash Floods In Ganderbal; Homes, Shops Submerged, Residents Forced To Flee

State Bureau, Srinagar: A cloudburst in the Safapora area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district triggered flash floods, submerging houses, shops, orchards, and roads, and causing widespread disruption to the local community.

Heavy Rain, Cloudburst Cause Flash Floods In Safapora

Heavy rainfall and a cloudburst in the upper reaches triggered flash flooding in Safapora, causing local drains and drainage channels to rise rapidly, according to a report by Jagran.com. A sudden flow of muddy water submerged roads and low-lying areas, halting vehicular traffic and disrupting normal life across the region.

Floodwaters also entered several homes, shops, and orchards, damaging household items and sparking significant crop loss concerns among local gardeners.

Residents Flee Homes

Speaking to Jagran.com, officials said the flash floods caused water levels to rise rapidly, creating panic among residents. As water began entering houses, dozens of families were forced to flee to safer locations.

The worst-affected areas in Safapora included Kohistan Colony, Gulab Sheikh Colony, and Bakshi Mohalla, where floodwaters entered homes, damaging household items and disrupting daily life.

Waterlogging In Alasteng Buserbugh

Meanwhile, continuous rain caused widespread waterlogging in Alasteng Buserbugh, submerging several homes in low-lying areas and causing immense hardship to residents.

Local residents said that flash floods entered houses and damaged large agricultural fields, including standing crops in the area. The incident occurred amid an active monsoon in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rain Wreaks Havoc In South India

Heavy monsoon rains have wreaked havoc in southern Indian states. Eight people have died in rain-related incidents in Kerala, forcing thousands to flee their homes. Meanwhile, three members of a family have lost their lives in a landslide in Shivamogga, neighbouring Karnataka.
