Delhi Weather Update: Residents of Delhi-NCR received much-needed relief from the blistering heat late Tuesday night as heavy rain accompanied by a powerful storm with 120 kmph winds swept through the national capital and adjoining areas.
The Palam weather station recorded 120 kmph of gusty winds between 6:50 PM and 6:52 PM on Tuesday, matching its previous such record in 2001. The sudden spell of rain significantly brought down the temperature, offering relief from the intense heatwave.

Delhi Weather Update
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had placed Delhi on a yellow alert for Tuesday. The day began with a warm morning as the minimum temperature settled at 29.2 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal. Rajghat recorded a minimum temperature of 30.3 degrees Celsius.
As the day progressed, intense sunshine and humidity pushed the maximum temperature to 43.5 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees above normal. The Ridge area recorded a maximum temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius.
The weather took a dramatic turn on Tuesday evening. Meteorologists stated that the persistent intense heat, combined with a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, triggered a dust storm between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
120 Kmph Winds Batter Delhi
According to Jagran.com, the storm hit Mayur Vihar with a minimum speed of 13 kmph, while peaking at 120 kmph in Palam. The Palam weather station recorded 120 kmph of gusty winds between 6:50 PM and 6:52 PM on Tuesday, matching its previous such record in 2001.
The last time Palam recorded winds of similar intensity was on June 4, 2001, when the maximum wind speed had also touched 120 kmph.
Around 10:30 PM, very light to light rain began in various areas of the national capital and continued till midnight, offering relief from the intense heatwave.
What's Ahead?
The weather office has forecast partly cloudy skies for Wednesday, with the possibility of thunder and lightning later in the day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 44 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will settle at 30 degrees Celsius. While no alert has been issued for today, the region is likely to experience a major shift later in the week.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday, followed by a yellow alert on Friday, warning of rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.
