Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: For candidates looking for government job opportunities in Delhi, a major recruitment drive may soon be announced. To address the ongoing manpower shortage in the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), the Union Home Ministry has approved a proposal for the recruitment of 10,743 new posts.

The proposal has been sent to the Delhi government for final administrative and financial approval. Once the approval is granted, the recruitment process will officially begin.

Delhi Fire Service Chief Fire Officer AK Malik said that a detailed proposal was submitted to the Union Home Ministry around five months ago due to the department’s critical shortage of personnel. After examining the proposal and reviewing various aspects, a high-level committee of the Home Ministry approved the recruitment plan for 10,743 posts.

Following approval from the Delhi government, the recruitment file will be forwarded to the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB). The board will then issue the official recruitment notification, invite applications, and conduct the selection process, which is expected to include a written examination.

Candidates selected through the recruitment process will not be immediately assigned to fire stations. They will first undergo specialised training conducted by the Delhi Fire Service. After successfully completing the training, they will be deployed at different fire stations across Delhi.

The urgent need for additional manpower in the Delhi Fire Service became evident during several major fire incidents reported in recent months, including incidents in Hauz Rani, Vivek Vihar, Palam, and Tughlakabad, where several people lost their lives.
