Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially open the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway today. This interstate project aims to enhance connectivity and ensure a more efficient route through the hilly landscape. To ensure commuter safety on the new route, authorities have implemented strict speed limits.

Passenger cars are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 100 km per hours, while heavy vehicles are restricted to 80 km per hours. To enforce these rules, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Transport Department have installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, which will issue automatic fines to those exceeding the limits.

Safety Protocols And Driver Guidelines
While the public remains enthusiastic about the faster commute, the Transport Department has issued specific safety directives for motorists:
Plan Ahead: Drivers should identify their entry and exit points before starting their journey.

Lane Discipline: Heavy vehicles must stay in the left lane, general traffic in the middle, and the right lane is reserved strictly for overtaking.
Prohibited Actions: Stopping or turning vehicles on the expressway is strictly forbidden.
Emergency Procedures: In case of a breakdown, pull over to the shoulder and contact patrolling teams via the designated helpline.
Wildlife And Environment: Avoid unnecessary honking to protect local wildlife and stay alert.
Terrain Caution: Drivers should reduce speed near Asharodi upon entering Dehradun due to steep inclines.
General Conduct: The use of mobile phones while driving and operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol are strictly prohibited. Citizens are also encouraged to assist those injured in the event of an accident.
Incident Management System
Although, this entire stretch is equipped with an Advanced Traffic Management System. Accident detection cameras are linked to a central control room, ensuring that emergency assistance is dispatched immediately following an incident. Furthermore, the system will automatically penalise traffic violations, including driving on the wrong side or overspeeding.
