Janata Dal United’s Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary took oaths as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new BJP-led NDA government in Bihar on Wednesday. The government will be headed by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.  The oaths were taken at the Lok Bhawan in the presence of top leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the BJP, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and three other alliance partners.

Who Is Bijendra Prasad Yadav

Born on 10 October 1946, Bijendra Prasad Yadav has built a political career defined by continuity and electoral success. He has represented Supaul in the Bihar Assembly since 1990 and has secured nine consecutive victories.

Yadav’s approach to leadership is often described as low-profile. Rather than relying on public rallies or constant media attention, he prefers to work behind the scenes. His experience includes working in key ministries such as Energy, Finance, Commercial Taxes, and Planning and Development, areas that require steady decision-making.

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as Chief Minister, marking the first time the party will lead the government in the state. Born in 1968, Samrat Choudhary comes from a family deeply rooted in politics. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, was a six-time MLA from the Tarapur constituency. His mother, Parvati Devi, won the same seat in 1998 for the now-defunct Samta Party. Before BJP and JD(U) renewed their alliance in 2024, Choudhary was the sharpest critic of Nitish Kumar. In 2022, he had publicly declared he would not remove his saffron turban (popularly known as muretha in Bihar) until Nitish Kumar was removed from power.
