Jagran Correspondent, Siwan: Bihar is known for the high productivity of the traditional crops; however, some farmers have tried their hands on the cash crops in recent times. Arun Kumar, a farmer from Siwan district, has grown a variety of crops, setting an example for the other farmers. While he started with traditional farming nearly 25 years ago, Kumar now grows several cash crops, including apples, dragon fruit, avocados, strawberries, and figs by using the modern techniques.
Kumar has successfully grown rare fruits like pear, apple, dragon fruit, cherry, star fruit, and white apple in the same complex. While the weather of Bihar is not suitable for most of these fruits, Kumar grew these crops by using modern farming techniques. While recounting his journey, Kumar stated that he inherited a passion for farming from his father.

While his father majorly focused on the traditional crops, Kumar took a step ahead and transformed his two-acre garden into a unique center of fruit diversity. His garden is planted with several varieties of pears, along with fruits like Babugosha, Harman-99, and Anna varieties of apples; yellow and pink dragon fruit; Thai apple; Kashmiri Thai apple; avocado, plum, fig, strawberry, red amla, Malta, cherry, and star fruit.
While providing details, Kumar stated that he receives 2 to 4 quintals of produce each year from just five pear trees. He further stated that along with boosting the production, his dream is to inspire the other farmers to try new farming methods.
As per him, a farmer in Bihar can easily grow modern crops with the right information, patience, and use of scientific techniques. The state government has launched several schemes related to agriculture and small business to motivate the residents to connect with the roots. Along with providing loans at affordable rates, the government has also pledged to provide training and markets to the farmers.
