Assam Shocker: 15-Year-Old Raped, Murdered In Hailakandi; 5 Detained, Massive Protests Gridlock NH-6

Assam: In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Assam's Hailakandi district. Following the incident, local police detained five individuals in connection with the case.

Speaking to The Times of India, Additional Superintendent of Police Samir Daptar Barua said, "Five people have been detained so far, and one of them is reportedly a minor."

Victim Targeted While Family Was Away

The incident reportedly took place at around 11:30 PM on Saturday at a residence near National Highway 6, under the jurisdiction of the Katlicherra Police Outpost. According to news agency ANI, the miscreant took advantage of the victim being alone, committing the crime when other family members were away.

Locals Block NH-6

Following the incident, local residents staged a protest and blocked National Highway 6, demanding the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those responsible. The blockade on the highway, a key route connecting Assam and Mizoram, caused severe traffic disruptions, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded for hours.

A large police contingent reached the site and launched an investigation into the crime. Further details are awaited.

Similar Incident Reported In Sribhumi District

The case comes days after a similar incident was reported in Sribhumi district, when an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered. After the child went missing around 10 AM, her family launched a search and discovered her body in a forested area near a hillock close to their home.

Alert local residents subsequently tracked down the 22-year-old man and handed him over to the police.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, an FIR was registered for rape and murder. However, authorities stated that the exact nature of the crime will be determined only after receiving the post-mortem report.
