- CBI to expedite 158 pending paper leak and scam trials.
- Cases to be transferred to fast-track courts under new law.

Despite the completion of the CBI investigation into 158 cases of alleged irregularities in recruitment exams an paper leaks, trials are yet to begin in various courts across the country, some of which were filed more than two decades ago.
To expedite the cases and ensure conviction, the CBI has now decided to approach all high courts to transfer these pending cases to the fast track courts being set up in various states under the new anti-paper leak law to hear such cases.
According to sources, cited by news agency PTI, the CBI has decided to inform all the High Courts that it will provide special public prosecutors for the hearing of these cases and will provide all the necessary resources so that the hearing of these cases can be completed as soon as possible.
State-wise pending cases
There are approximately 25 cases in Delhi since 2000 where the CBI investigations have been completed but trials have not begun. These include the 2004 Common Admission Test irregularities, the 2010-11 AIIMS-PG admission test, the 2011 Delhi University Medical and Dental Entrance Exams, the 2013 SSC recruitment and teacher recruitment cases.

Five cases are pending in Bihar, three of which are related to the alleged NEET 2024 paper leak. Similarly, the 2022 constable recruitment case in Himachal Pradesh is among three cases awaiting trial in the state, while three cases in Jammu and Kashmir are yet to begin.
PTI stated that five cases are awaiting hearing in Jharkhand, five in Karnataka, three in Maharashtra (including two related to NEET 2024), eight in Rajasthan, 14 in Tamil Nadu and 10 each in Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
Anti-paper leak act comes into force
Notably, the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Act, 2026, also called as the anti-paper leak act, received President Droupadi Murmu's assent on Saturday.
The law provisions higher penalty, tougher sentence for those involved in paper leaks, unfair practises, etc. The law also mandates setting up of fast track courts in every state to try crimes related to such cases.
