A 23-year-old web developer from Gurugram has been fired from his job after making controversial comments during a live comedy show. Himanshu Jangra faced immediate and widespread outrage across social media for remarks he made as an audience member during a performance by comedian Pranit More. The incident quickly grew into a massive online debate about entitlement, misogyny, and modern dating culture.
The controversy began when a crowd-work video clip from the stand-up show started circulating on Instagram. In the footage, Jangra recounted a personal date story where he bought a plate of chicken biryani worth around Rs 370 for a woman. He openly stated that because he paid for the meal, he felt entitled to a "return" on his financial investment, hinting at physical intimacy. Recalling the evening, Jangra told the comedian, "Maine kaha ki Rs 370 lage hain to use to wasool to karunga hi." He then described pressuring the woman to accompany him to a dark park despite her clear reluctance.

Who Is Himanshu Jangra?
Following the intense public backlash, Jangra apologised for his comments and deactivated his social media accounts. However, the controversy continued to build, prompting his employer, Gurugram-based branding and design firm Starvik Design, to take strict action.
Vivek Vishwakarma, the founder of Starvik Design, released a video statement on Instagram confirming that the company had decided to part ways with the web developer. Vishwakarma explained that he had received hundreds of emails, messages, and phone calls regarding the viral clip. He stated, "Let me be very clear, the statements shown in those clips are offensive. They are not something I agree with. They are not something our company stands for and they certainly should not be influencing young minds."

Interestingly, the founder revealed that the firm had conducted a thorough internal review before finalizing the termination. The management spoke to various team members, including female employees who worked directly with Jangra. According to the review, there was not a single complaint against his behavior in the office, and colleagues described him as respectful, hardworking, and professional at work.
Despite his good professional conduct, the company felt that his public actions outside the office directly threatened the corporate environment and safety values of the firm. While confirming the sacking, Vishwakarma also urged the public to avoid excessive social media trolling, noting that the young man would already face long-term career consequences from this single mistake. Meanwhile, comedian Pranit More has also issued a public apology, admitting it was a lapse in judgement to initially laugh at the remark and label it as "Peak Gurgaon content" instead of challenging it on stage.
