Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut first shared screen space in Kites (2010) and later reunited for Krrish 3 (2013). Rumours of their relationship started doing the rounds after Hrithik's separation from his former wife, Sussanne Khan, in December 2013.

For more than a year, neither Hrithik Roshan nor Kangana Ranaut publicly confirmed or denied the dating rumours.

'Exes Do Silly Things': Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut said she did not understand "why exes do silly things to get your attention," in an interview in early 2016. While she did not name anyone, many people believed she was referring to Hrithik Roshan.

Soon after, Hrithik Roshan sent Kangana Ranaut a legal notice, asking her to apologise publicly and clarify her remarks. He also denied that they had ever been in a relationship. "There are more chances of me having had an affair with the Pope than with Kangana Ranaut," he said.

On October 5, 2016, Hrithik Roshan shared a detailed Facebook post denying Kangana Ranaut's claims. He also said his passport records showed he had not travelled to Paris in January 2014, when Kangana claimed they got engaged.

In 2016, Hrithik Roshan also filed a police complaint, alleging that someone had been impersonating him and sending emails to Kangana Ranaut using a fake email ID. Kangana Ranaut's lawyer responded by claiming her email account had been hacked before May 25, 2014, and said emails sent from her account after that date should not be treated as genuine.

As the investigation continued, both Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut submitted their electronic devices for forensic examination.

Kangana Ranaut And Hrithik Roshan Had A 7 Year Relationship?

Kangana Ranaut claimed they had been in a relationship for seven years, including while Hrithik Roshan was still married to Sussanne Khan. She also refused to apologise, saying she was not a "dim-witted teenager."

Hrithik Roshan continued to deny the allegations and repeated his stand in a detailed public note. "An alleged seven-year-long, passionate affair between two high-profile celebrities with no evidence. No photos, no witnesses, no messages, not even a selfie from the alleged engagement in Paris in January 2014."

In February 2021, nearly five years after the complaint was filed, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch called Hrithik Roshan to record his statement in the case. The actor spent over two hours at the Crime Intelligence Unit at the Mumbai Police Commissioner's office before leaving without speaking to the media.

Reacting later, Kangana Ranaut wrote, "Duniya kahan se kahan pahunch gayi magar mera silly ex abhi bhi waheen hai usi modh pe jahan yeh waqt dobara laut ke nahi jane wala."

In an interview with Barkha Dutt, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das stated that his friends had informed him that Kangana was after him because he resembled a younger Hrithik Roshan. The comment went viral right away. Social media users rekindled the 2016 debate by starting the "Sorry Hrithik" meme.

His remarks quickly fueled trend, with many social media users comparing it to the well reported 2016 court dispute between Hrithik and Kangana.
