Spider-Man Brand New Day To Re-Release With New Footage: What We Know About Extended Cut

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading back to theatres with unseen footage, giving Tom Holland’s record-breaking Marvel film another theatrical run just weeks after its original release. 

The re-release is being planned by Sony Pictures following the strong performance of Avengers: Endgame Encore, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.

The new footage is about Rosario Dawson’s deleted scene as Claire Temple, as per social media posts. Dawson had previously confirmed that she filmed a scene for Brand New Day but was cut from the theatrical version.

However, Sony has not yet publicly revealed a re-release date, the final list of added scenes or the runtime of the new version. Deadline's report claimed that the additional footage includes Claire Temple but is not limited to her.

What Is The Extended Part Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day About?

The extended cut of Spider-Man: The Brand New Day re-release is about the deleted scene of Claire Temple.

Rosario Dawson revealed in August that she had actually filmed a scene for Brand New Day, but it was ultimately removed. Speaking at GalaxyCon Raleigh, she said she had been hoping to work with Spider-Man but discovered that her appearance had been cut from the finished movie.

Claire was originally supposed to appear after Spider-Man's fight with Scorpion, played by Michael Mando. Peter's battle leaves him injured, and the original version of the sequence would have taken him to a hospital, where he interacted with Claire, who works as a nurse.

Screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers explained what happened in an interview with TheWrap. Sommers described it as a good scene but said it was likely removed simply because of runtime and pacing. 

McKenna similarly described the movie as already being around two and a half hours and packed with characters and scenes.

Will There Be More New Scenes Besides Claire Temple?

Apparently, yes, there will be more scenes besides Claire Temple. However, there is no reliable studio-confirmed list of those scenes.  

Deadline's report specifically stated that the additional footage will include, but is not limited to, Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple material. That wording opens the possibility of other deleted or extended scenes being restored.

Box Office Collection Backs Re-Release

Marvel Studios brought Avengers: Endgame back to cinemas on September 25 with additional footage connected to Avengers: Doomsday. The re-release opened to around $26 million domestically and $86 million worldwide over its opening weekend, according to box-office reporting.

That success appears to have given Sony a reason to use a similar strategy with Brand New Day; bringing an already successful film back to cinemas while offering audiences material they have not seen before.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Box Office Collection

According to Variety, Spider-Man: Brand New Day had grossed approximately $950.7 million domestically and $2.5 billion worldwide as of September 27, 2026. 

That puts the film roughly $50 million away from becoming the first movie ever to cross $1 billion at the North American box office. Variety noted that a re-release could provide the additional theatrical runway needed to make that target possible. 

The film has already taken the all-time domestic record from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It crossed $936.77 million after 47 days, overtaking the 2015 film's roughly $936 million total.
