Uttar Pradesh School Holiday: Meerut Schools Shut For 10 Days, Muzaffarnagar For 8 Days From Aug 3 Amid Kanwar Yatra

Uttar Pradesh School Holiday Tomorrow: The Uttar Pradesh administration has announced school holidays in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and ease traffic congestion caused by the movement of lakhs of Kanwariyas across western Uttar Pradesh.

According to official orders issued by district authorities, educational institutions, including government and private schools, will remain closed for specified periods. Officials have instructed all institutions to strictly comply with the orders, warning that any violation may invite action under applicable rules.

Why Are Schools Closed in Meerut?

Meerut District Magistrate Dr. V.K. Singh has directed all educational institutions to remain closed from August 3 to August 12, 2026. The closure covers basic schools, secondary schools, colleges, universities, and technical institutions.

The administration said the decision was taken because a massive number of Kanwariyas are expected to pass through the city during the annual pilgrimage, leading to heavy traffic and security arrangements.

Muzaffarnagar Schools to Remain Closed Till August 10

The Muzaffarnagar Basic Education Department has also announced a holiday for all government and private schools from August 3 to August 10, 2026.

Basic Education Officer Sandeep Kumar stated that every institution must follow the directive without exception to ensure student safety during the Kanwar Yatra.

Kanwar Yatra Behind the Decision

The Kanwar Yatra began on July 30 and will continue until August 28, 2026. Every year, millions of devotees travel through western Uttar Pradesh to collect holy water from Haridwar, resulting in heavy traffic and extensive security arrangements.
