Massive Blow For India As Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out Of Sri Lanka Test Series

India have suffered a major setback ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with pace ssuperstar Jasprit Bumrah reportedly ruled out after experiencing fresh discomfort in his left knee during the final phase of his rehabilitation.

The report comes just 48 hours after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared Bumrah fit, raising fresh concerns over the fast bowler's long-term fitness and India's preparations for a crucial leg of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Fresh Knee Discomfort Ends Bumrah's Comeback Plans

According to multiple media reports, Bumrah felt renewed pain in his left knee while completing the final stages of his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Although the 32-year-old had recently been cleared to resume competitive cricket, the Indian team management has opted not to take any risks with its premier fast bowler. The decision means Bumrah will miss the entire two-Test series in Sri Lanka as the medical staff prioritises his long-term recovery.

The latest setback is another frustrating chapter in Bumrah's injury struggles, with the pacer having spent significant periods on the sidelines over the past few years.

A source told The Times of India that India's management was determined to avoid repeating mistakes made in the past.

"There have been instances in the past where players have been rushed back to cricket, and have broken down. You can't take that risk again. Especially with Bumrah. So complete recovery is the only goal and there is a lot of cricket left in the year. There are Asian Games, the tour of New Zealand and even the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year," the source said.

Huge Setback for India's World Test Championship Campaign

Bumrah's absence couldn't have come at a worse time for India.

The upcoming Sri Lanka series is a crucial part of India's World Test Championship campaign, with the Shubman-led side needing to win seven of their remaining nine Tests to secure a place in the WTC final.

Without Bumrah, India lose not only their most prolific wicket-taker but also the leader of their pace attack, especially in overseas conditions where his ability to produce breakthroughs has often made the difference.

The injury significantly weakens India's chances of maintaining momentum in the WTC standings.

Auqib Nabi Emerges As Leading Replacement

With Bumrah unavailable, selectors are expected to name a replacement in the coming days.

Domestic pacer Auqib Nabi has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant spot after an impressive showing for India A during their recent tour of Sri Lanka.
