Bumrah's Impact

Bumrah's absence is a significant blow to India's pace attack. Widely regarded as one of the world's best fast bowlers, the 32-year-old has been a key figure across all formats. The team management opted against rushing his return, prioritising his long-term fitness ahead of a packed international calendar.

For Nabi, the selection is a reward for consistent performances over the past two domestic seasons. The right-arm pacer picked up an outstanding 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy campaigns, including 60 wickets during the 2025-26 season. His exceptional bowling played a crucial role in guiding Jammu and Kashmir to their maiden Ranji Trophy title.

The youngster further strengthened his case during India's recent A tour of Sri Lanka. Representing the India A side, Nabi claimed six wickets in two first-class matches, impressing the selectors with his pace, discipline and ability to extract movement from the surface.

Opportunity for Nabi

The upcoming Sri Lanka Test series now presents the 24-year-old with a golden opportunity to make his international debut. While replacing a bowler of Bumrah's stature is no easy task, Nabi will be eager to translate his domestic success onto the biggest stage.

India's bowling unit will now rely on its experienced pacers to fill the void left by Bumrah, while Nabi's inclusion adds a fresh face and an exciting prospect to the squad. His performances in domestic cricket and for India A suggest he possesses the temperament to compete at the highest level.
