The ICC on Monday revealed a few changes made during the board meetings held in Ahmedabad during the IPL 2026 summit clash between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Gujarat Titans. The world governing body for cricket also unveiled several decisions aimed at bolstering governance, supporting women's cricket, and strengthening the competitive structure.
The ICC board also approved multiple recommendations during the Chief Executive Meetings, such as using the pink ball as a trial in the longest format to extend match duration in bad light. But this can only be achieved if both sides agree to this before a match or a series begins.
The match officials can also use Hawk-Eye data when planning to report an illegal bowling action. They will research lighting technology for match officials and stadiums to reduce time lost due to poor lighting. The world cricketing body will co-fund these research and development projects with the MCC.
The information about the playing conditions will also help head coaches and their assistants to talk to their teams in the scheduled drinks break, the 15-minute break in the shortest format, and will need batters to be prepared once the match starts.
It will also have a permanent option for legside wide trials, as the rest of the MCC laws for this sport will be implemented from October this year.
‘Franchise cricket’
The world governing body of cricket also raised concerns about the growth of franchise cricket. It will establish a committee to analyze how to harmonize franchise cricket with the international calendar within the existing system.

“Our discussions in Ahmedabad have reinforced the ICC’s commitment to governance, administration, and the growth of cricket globally. From women’s cricket and emerging nations to the management of franchise competitions, today’s discussions and decisions aim to ensure that cricket remains fair, competitive, and exciting for fans worldwide,” Jay Shah, who is the chairman of ICC, was heard as saying in the statement.
