Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is currently making headlines after his iconic performance for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Bhuvneshwar, who last featured for India in 2022, had a memorable IPL campaign where he picked up 28 wickets in the tournament, which is just one wicket behind Purple Cap winner Kagiso Rabada.

His impressive form even caught the eye of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who shared a video of nearly two minutes explaining how Bhuvneshwar has been using the wobble seam effectively to trouble batters.

The 28 wickets are the highest tally Bhuvneshwar has achieved in a single IPL season. Naturally, his performances have led to discussions about a possible return to the Indian team. However, the 36-year-old is not thinking too much about it and believes the decision rests with the selectors.

“It’s my nature that I don’t want to show that I want to play,” Bhuvneshwar told The Indian Express. “I think everyone is doing their job. Selectors are doing their job. I’m doing my job. It’s their responsibility to select. If they think I’m good enough, they will do their job.”

Even though he is not focusing on a comeback, Bhuvneshwar admitted that playing for India remains a special achievement and said he feels fortunate to have represented the country.

“I have played, I have done what I had to do. If I hadn’t played, I would have been dying to be asked to play a match. I think it’s a big thing to play for India, I won’t say it’s a small thing, I’m one of the lucky ones that I have played,” he said.

Bhuvneshwar made a dream start to his international career with a memorable first ball. During his debut against Pakistan, Mohammad Hafeez left the delivery alone, only to see it swing sharply back and hit the off stump.

Looking back at that famous wicket, Bhuvneshwar said, “I don’t think I have got the ball to swing as much as that debut wicket. I don’t even know how I did that much swing bowling.”

Over the years, Bhuvneshwar has represented India in all three formats and has taken 294 international wickets, making him one of the country’s most successful fast bowlers.
